IN AN ‘ENRICH YOUR LIFE’ COURSE AT CC
Colorado College offers 11 classes this summer for community members
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – May 22, 2008 – Interested in learning more about the Arab world? How about the relevance of Buddhism, the roots of terrorism or the special qualities of chamber music?
Colorado College’s “Enrich Your Life!” summer program is a series of workshops, lectures and seminars open to community members interested in expanding their knowledge on subjects of personal interest.
The new program features 11 non-credit courses taught by Colorado College faculty and area experts. Costs range from $45 to $150, and all courses are taught on the Colorado College campus. Those who enroll in more than one course receive 10 percent off the second course and 20 percent off all subsequent courses. Those who take four or more courses receive an “Enrich Your Life” certificate.

- “Introduction to Letterpress Printing”
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15; taught by Colin Frazer, director of The Press at Colorado College; $135.
- “The Joy of Chamber Music”
4 p.m. until the concert’s end, Thursday, June 19; taught by Michael Grace, CC professor of music and founder and director of the Colorado College Collegium Musicum and the Summer Conservatory and Music Festival; $65 (includes concert ticket), $50 (with previously purchased concert ticket).
- “The Joy of Symphonic Music”
12:30 p.m. until the concert’s end, Sunday, June 22; taught by Michael Grace, CC professor of music and founder and director of the Colorado College Collegium Musicum and the Summer Conservatory and Music Festival; $60 (includes orchestra ticket), $50 (with previously purchased ticket).
- “Terrorism”
9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, June 28; taught by Dennis Showalter, CC professor of history, author of more than 23 books and countless articles on military history, and one of the top military historians in the country; $50
- “The Arab World: An Introduction to Language, Land and Food”
4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, June 28; taught by native speaker Maha Foster, who teaches introductory, intermediate and adjunct courses in Arabic language, and has taught Arabic at the U.S. Air Force Academy; $70.
- “Introduction to Italic Calligraphy”
9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6; taught by calligrapher and bookbinder David Ashley; $150.
- “Obama Nation: Representations of Race in Post-Race America”
5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 9; taught by Charles Gallagher, associate professor of sociology at Georgia State University; $45.
- “Pride and Prejudice: Austen vs. the Filmmakers”
9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, July 19; taught by George Butte, CC English professor who also teaches film theory classes; $100.
- “Telling the Truth: Writing Creative Nonfiction”
9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, July 26, taught by Kathryn Eastburn; former editor of the Colorado Springs Independent and author of two nonfiction books; $100.
- “The Relevance of Buddhism Here and Now”
9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, August 2; taught by David Gardiner, CC associate professor of religion who specializes in Buddhism and the religions of China and Japan; $50.
- “Local and Natural Papermaking”
8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, August 9 and Sunday, August 10; taught by Colin Frazer, director of The Press at Colorado College; $135.
